In real estate, there are many different ways to acquire property. Two methods that are still around, although not in common use at this time for residential purchases, are the ‘land contract’ and the lease with options. In the land contract the buyer may “use, occupy, and enjoy the land” but no deed is given until all or a specified part of the sale price has been given. In a lease with options, the lessee (tenant) has the right, but not the obligation to purchase or lease the property upon specified terms.
