Inspiration…

“Our character is not defined in the good times, but in the hard times.”  Paul Brodie

Did you know that…

In the sixth century B.C. the Greeks discovered that poisoning wine was an excellent way to get rid of their enemies.  To reassure guests dining with you, it was customary for the host to take the first drink to assure their guests that the wine was not poisoned.  To absorb some of the acid from the wine, it was customary to place a piece of burnt bread – or “tostus” – into the wine.  Today, when the host takes the first drink it is referred to as a “toast”.

The first regular telephone system was installed in the maritime state of Connecticut and as such, people answered the telephone by saying, “ahoy”.  Alexander Graham Bell answered the telephone by saying, “hoy.”  But when Thomas Edison answered the phone, he answered it differently, and we answered it that way to this day.  Edison answered the phone by saying “hello.”

One of the earliest medical treatments for snake bite was for the doctor to place his lips on the point of entry and suck the venom out of the bite.  This treatment was so effective that doctors used this as a treatment for many different infections.  Modern medicine has moved on but when a child is hurt, we still “kiss” the injury to make it better.

In medieval times when residents of a community did not like someone, they simply burned their house down, so they had to move to another community.  Today, when we want someone to leave a place of employment, we say they were “fired.”

In real estate, the number one complaint that clients have about their agent is communication.  Not the right kind of communication, too much, not enough, on and on.  The number one complaint that real estate agents have about clients – you guessed it – communication.  It is critically important to discuss upfront the best way to communicate with each otherand then do so.
